In a US study, nearly 2/3 of the school-aged kids tested were likely to be dehydrated as indicated by a high urine concentration. The reason is simple: They weren’t drinking enough water. Studies show that most (75%) school-aged children do not drink water from the time they wake up to when they go to school.  You may ask, don’t they drink something during breakfast?
The wrong beverages might actually dehydrate the body.  Cells can shrink and become dehydrated from the high levels of sodium, sugars, and amino acids in milk and juice, for instance.  Even mild dehydration can impair a child’s ability to perform on cognitive tests in school. Studies showed that giving these children water resulted in better performance on school tests compared to children that were not offered water.
